NYC PoThe sixth annual New York City Poetry Festival commences this weekend on Governors Island. The two-day festival runs from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31. Co-founded by New School MFA alumni Stephanie Berger and Nicholas Adamski in 2011, the festival aims to "liberate poets and their work from the dark corners of bars, bookstores, and coffee shops and their halogen-lit college campuses, and to bring together as many NYC poets as possible, in the bright light of day, to meet, mingle, and collaborate."

The festival has always featured numerous New School MFA graduates, students, and faculty, and this year is no exception. New School alumni reading this weekend include Liz AxelrodLisa Marie Basile, Silvia Bonilla, Jackie Clark, Sean Damlos-Mitchell, John Deming, Gabriel Don, BC Edwards, Isaac Fornarola, Thomas Fucaloro, Seth Graves, Atoosa Grey, Mark Gurarie, Ben Janse, Linda Kleinbub, Soraya Shalforoosh, Melinda Wilson, and Matthew Yeager. Faculty member Sharon Mesmer is featured as well.
