The Children's Literature Centre Book Award was founded in 2012 and given to an artist in the early stages of their career, whose work embodies themes of compassion, love, and courage.

This year, our very own Caron Levis, Professor, and Coordinator of the Writing for Children and Young Adults at New School is the recipient of the CLC award for her picture book, Ida, Always (Atheneum Books).

The book that was illustrated by Australian based artist, Charles Santoso, sheds important light on grief and follows the real-life friendship of, Ida and Gus, two polar bears who lived in the New York City Zoo.

"Even bear sized gratitude isn't big enough to describe how I feel towards everyone at the Children's Literature Centre at Frostburg State University. I was/am so overwhelmed by the incredibly generous, heartfelt, thoughtful, and delicious award and events, and the wonderful people I had the pleasure of meeting…It is an honor to have Ida, Always recognized by the CLC's spirit." -Caron Levis

"Thank you very much for celebrating Ida, Always. Honored to be a part of this." -Charles Santoso
