Creative Writing at The New School

It is with great sadness that we share news that New School student Bean River Haskell passed away on April 12, 2018, after a long illness. 

Bean was 31 years old, and earning their undergraduate degree in the Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students. Bean was also a member of the Riggio Honors Program: Writing & Democracy, and a leader in our community from 2011–2015. Bean was an editor for 12th Street literary journal, a prolific poet, and a champion of joy, kindness, and creativity. In Bean's writing and activism, they reveled in the beauty of the world while resisting injustice. Please find Bean's full obituary attached to this message. 

In recognition of their academic excellence, achievement, and contribution to The New School, Bean Haskell will be awarded a posthumous degree from the university.
